really? REALLY?

OK, we need to discuss this and I need feedback. Kohl's. Yes, Kohl's. I have recently been inundated with blog posts, mag articles, ads, etc in my face about Vera Wang at Kohl's. Part of me wants to be like, "ok, affordable, cute, stylish...done." The other part is like "Ok, Vera, we get it, bedding, dishes, lingerie, bags, and oh yeah, Bridal Gowns!" I do feel like she's selling her name everywhere on earth. But I have to say, some of this stuff is cute. But I have a bad impression of Kohl's in my head. Has anyone seen this stuff in person? What do you think of it. If you all love it, I will check it out immediately. Thanks!

I haven't seen it in person yet but I totally want to. I've only ever been to Kohls's for an after-Christmas wrapping paper sale. But I do like Bitten by SJP (I'm from CA and her line is out here) and I heard that Stella McCartney sold out her line at H&M in minutes last year, so I'm on board to try Vera's discount line! If I go this weekend, I'll let you know what I find.

I just went online to see the clothes and the one thing I had my eye on - a cute, short swing coat - is already gone!

I do not understand why top designers and brand names are trying to go cheap to appeal to a broader audience like this. From a marketing standpoint it makes no sense; by trying to make everyone their target market they just dilute their brand because they're no longer specialising. There's nothing special about owning a Mercedes car anymore, now that they make the cheap Smart Fortwo! It's the same thing here with Vera Wang.

As a sidenote, I guess the top photo of the jacket is nice if unremarkable, but the top in the second photo is hideous and that dress looks really cheap. To me, anyway.

hey ladies,
so I actually was at kohls this morning with my sister in law to check out this stuff and I have to say I was very disappointed. The stuff looks slightly cute in person, but is not well made at all. Plus all of it is huge! I tried on smalls (not sure if she makes xs but I couldn't find any) and it looked like I was wearing a potato sack.
Don't waste your time making a trip!

Thank you Sarah! We were afraid of that but have to say, we expected it.

4 stars to you Sarah!

I am on the fence about this as well. I understand wanting to increase profit margin, but I think it hurts designers when they go too far from their well-crafted niche. Like Colin Cowie and his Wal-Mart line. Bad combo.

terrible! it all looks cute in the ads but in real life it is very, very poorly made and really rough materials. it's also expensive for being so poorly constructed. a total waste of time.

Yes the vera wang kohls stuff has been all over the place but what I'm more tired of is how everyone has to preface their post with "i've never been into kohls, I don't normally like kohls, I wouldn't step foot, i have a bad impression of kohl's in my head blah, blah, blah etc., etc."

Like everyone has to prove that they wouldn't be caught dead in a discount retailer. Heaven forbid.

Fashion can be found anywhere...it doesn't all have to be lux fabrics and lux pricetags. A true fashionista can find inspiration from any place including Kohls. Are the fabrics the same and the construction the same? No, of course not and if one was expecting it to be then they are nieve. That's why it's cheaper. But what's wrong with bringing fashion to the masses?

What would be a better experiment is if you posted the same photos and said they were Vera's new line from her normal collection and see how many people would rave...then say they are at Kohls and see if people would still rave.

And big name designers have to "dilute" their names b/c their businesses would die without expansion...it's a money game.

I saw this stuff in person today! In fact, I was planning to do a post on it. The pieces weren't cheap ($60-$150) but they definitely looked cheap. The designs were great but the fabric looked bad.

You guys are the best. This is awesome feedback. We have the best readers.

In regards to the comment about remarking that we dislike Kohl's...We are HUGE bargain shoppers. We love Target, Wal Mart, Marshalls, even Salvation Army. However in my opinion Kohl's has done a terrible job marketing. I don't view the store as a place to get a great deal on cool stuff. I view it as a store with outdated unattractive goods.

But this is why I posed the question. I'm not opposed if it's great. But sounds like the stuff isn't great anyway.

Thanks again for all of your feedback!

I love lux but I also love Target and TJ Maxx! But I dislike Kohls's. They seem to have a frumpy marketing campaign.
